What is Starcraft?
Starcraft is a game franchise made by Blizzard Entertainment. Currently, the franchise includes Starcraft and Starcraft II. Starcraft was released in 1998. The strategy game takes place on a different planet, and involves running an economy and waging war.
Starcraft is a real-time strategy game, rather than a turn-based game. Players have many responsibilities: they must manage their economy, build new buildings, grow their army, claim new territory all while ensuring their opponent's do not do the same.
Starcraft II, released in 2010, is even more famous than the original. The game holds many of the same qualities as the original. Starcraft II has upgraded graphics, an upgraded soundtrack, new game modes, and is available on a variety of game platforms.
Where does Starcraft take place?
Starcraft takes place in the Koprulu Sector of the Milky Way Galaxy. The game centers around a power struggle between four races of aliens. These alien races are the Terrans, Zerg, Protoss, and Xel'Naga. Each race has different characteristics and abilities.
Starcraft was very successful, which inspired Blizzard Games to release ad-on content. Insurrection was released in 1998 as an add-on pack. From 2015-2018 three ad-on packs were released for Starcraft II. These ad-on packs give players more to do in the game so they don't get bored of the same tasks.
Starcraft has many novelizations, graphic novels, and short stories about the background of the game. There is also an official board game for Starcraft, which takes a unique spin on the original game.
