Soccer Midfield Anchor

What is a midfield anchor in soccer?
Midfield anchor is a term for a holding midfielder. This term is especially used for defensive midfielders who are either assigned to rarely venture out of position or are so talented in the role that they can make an impact from a central location. A midfield anchor is typically so strong that they are alone the first line of defense, covering much of the upper backfield by themselves.
