Soccer Defensive Wall

What is a defensive wall in soccer?

The defensive wall in soccer is when a group of players form a wall in order to block a free kick. They must be 10 yards away from the position of the free kick.

The opposing team can do a number of things to increase defense on a direct or an indirect kick. On a free kick, defensive players often create a “wall” by standing shoulder to shoulder and linking arms in front of the goal in an attempt to block the attempted kick. They can jump up as the ball is kicked in efforts to block it, though they must remain 10 yards away from the ball until it is kicked.
