Los Angeles Kings
Los Angeles Kings
The Los Angeles Kings are an NHL team, established in 1967 as an expansion team for the West Division. The team started off by making the postseason during their first two seasons, though they did not attain a winning record either year. After a few years of poor performances, the Kings became solid competitors within the league. Behind stars like Marcel Dionne, Wayne Gretzky, and Rogie Vachon, they became a competitive team that would consistently make it to the postseason. After a drought in the early 2000s, the team went on to win two Stanley Cups in three years (2012 and 2014). Some of the most famous players to have suited up for the Kings include Wayne Gretzky, Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar.

History of the Los Angeles Kings
With losing records in each of their first 6 seasons, the Kings made a lot of improvements over time that helped them reach the playoffs with a winning record in the 1973-74 season. They would reach the playoffs during the next 8 seasons behind players like Marcel Dionne and Dave Taylor, but never made it farther than the Smythe Division Championship. The team was competitive but unremarkable in the league.
This started to change during the 1986-87 season, with the team reaching their division's semi-finals. In 1988, the Kings traded for hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, who went on to win the league's MVP that year. The team continued improving until they reached the Stanley Cup Finals in the 1992-93 season, ultimately losing to the Canadiens.
The rest of the 1990s and early 2000s were not very successful for the team, missing the postseason more times than they made it. Behind Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown, the team made it back to the playoffs in 2010, leading to a Stanley Cup win in 2012 and another in 2014. The team is hoping to return to that glory in the 2019-20 season, with the hiring of new head coach Todd McLellan.
