Florida panthers

Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers are an NHL team that play in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The Panthers were founded in 1993 as an expansion team from the NHL, along with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

Notable Players

Notable players for the Panthers include Pavel Bure, Roberto Luongo and Aleksander Barkov. Pavel Bure and Roberto Luongo gathered most of their fame playing on the Vancouver Canucks, but eventually found their way to Florida. Aleksander Barkov was selected 2nd overall in 2013 by the Panthers, and has played only for Florida.

Barkov has recently taken over as the face of the Panthers' franchise, and is now one of the best centerman in the NHL.

Attendance Troubles

Throughout the years, the Panthers have had serious trouble with getting their fans to attend the games regularly. Even when the Panthers are playing well, their stadium is often mostly empty during games. Many suggest that the attendance problems are a result of playing in Florida, which is not thought of as a hockey state. However, their neighboring franchise, the Tampa Bay Lightning, have had success both on the ice and with attendance.

Front Office

The Florida Panthers are owned by Sunrise Sports and Entertainment. Their general manager is Dave Tallon. Tallon, 68 years old, played in the NHL for 10 years. Joel Quenville took over the position of head coach during the 2019 offseason. Quenville is extremely successful, having won 3 stanley cups as a coach of the Chicago Blackhawks. The Panthers will be the fourth team Quenville coaches for.

96 Points

In the 2018-19 season, Aleksander Barkov scored 96 points, including 35 goals and 61 assists. This was the best offensive effort by a Panthers player in many years, and is a sign of what's to come in Florida. The young Panthers hopefully have a bright future.

Stadium

The Panthers play at BB Center in Sunrise Florida.

Atlantic Division

The Panthers play in the Atlantic Division, along with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, and Ottowa Senators. In the 2018-19 season, the Panthers finished 5th in the Atlantic Division out of 8 teams.

2019-20

There is a lot of hype surrounding the Panthers heading into the 2019-20 season. During the 2019 offseason, the Panthers signed three players in free agency: Sergei Bobrovsky, Anton Stralman, and Brett Conolly. All of these players are expected to have a big impact, especially Bobrovsky. Many believe the Panthers could finish first in the Eastern Conference in the 2019-20 season if all goes well.
