Chapter 5

In this chapter, we will learn how ice hockey teams move the puck up and down the rink. At the end of this chapter you should be able to explain how players skate, pass, shoot, and maintain possession of the puck on the ice.

Puck Movement

Now that we understand the basic player positions in ice hockey, it is time that we learn how players move the puck on the ice. There are three (3) primary ways that players can move the puck in ice hockey:

  1. skating
  2. passing
  3. shooting

What We'll Be Learning

First, we'll learn what it means to have possession of the puck in ice hockey. Next, we'll learn the basics of moving the puck by means of skating, passing, and shooting.

By the end of this chapter, you should fully understand how players move the puck on the ice during a game.
