Roughing The Passer

Roughing the passer in football is a penalty called on any defensive player who aggressively makes contact with the quarterback while he is attempting to pass the ball. Roughing the passer is usually called on a defensive player who sacks the quarterback after the ball has been thrown or when the down ends. Roughing the passer results in a loss of fifteen (15) yards and an automatic 1st down for the offense.
