Bad Hop

A ground ball that suddenly takes an unexpected bounce in another direction as a fielder attempts to field it. They are notorious for bouncing sharply and causing injury to a fielder if the baseball hits them in the face. These bounces are caused by the baseball's spin and rotation in addition to imperfections on the infield dirt such as large pebbles, concetrated piles of dirt, or dips.
