How Many Super Bowls Have The Texans Won?

As the newest addition to the NFL, the Houston Texans are one of four teams that have never been to the Super Bowl, and also one of 12 who have never won it. Below, we will explain why Houston has yet to make a Super Bowl showing, and go through the years in which they have been closest to making it.

Texans Playoff History

The Houston Texans became an NFL team in 1999. However, they did not play their first game until 2002. Houston struggled from 2002 until 2011, when they finally reached the playoffs for the first time.

Since 2011, the Texans have been to the playoffs six times. They have never won a postseason game at another team’s stadium and have yet to reach a conference championship game. Thus, they are the only team in the NFL to have never accomplished either of these feats.

Though they haven’t reached a conference championship or the Super Bowl, the Texans have had some success in the postseason. The playoff wins and losses Houston has sustained thus far include:

• In 2011, Houston won the Wild Card game against the Bengals 31-10 but lost to the Ravens in the Divisional playoffs 13-20.
• The Texans quickly got back on their feet, making it to the playoffs in 2012 as well. They were victorious against the Bengals again in the Wild Card game, 19-13. Then, they lost to the Patriots 28-41.
• The Wild Card game in 2015 was a tough loss for the Texans to swallow. They were kicked out of the playoffs by the Chiefs 0-30.
• Houston bounced back again and beat the Raiders 27-14 in the 2016 Wild Card Game. However, they lost the Divisional playoffs to the Patriots 16-34.
• After one year of not making it to the playoffs, Houston returned in 2018 and played in the Wild Card playoffs against the Colts. They lost 7-21.
• In 2019, the Texans won in overtime against the Bills 22-19 in the Wild Card playoffs. However, they lost to the dominant Chiefs 31-51 in the Divisional playoffs.

Texans Super Bowl Outlook

Unlike many other NFL teams, the Texans have not had much time to make it to the Super Bowl. As the youngest team in the NFL, they have only played for 20 years. Therefore, Houston still has a fighting chance to make it to the Super Bowl, as they have many years to grow their team and make a shot for the Big Game. However, quite a few older teams, such as the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Detroit Lions, have also never made it to the Super Bowl. Furthermore, the Arizona Cardinals (tied as one of the oldest NFL teams) have never won the Super Bowl. While this does not mean that the Texans will also never make it to the Super Bowl, it does show that it is possible for teams to have extremely long stints of not making or not winning a championship. Whether this will be the case for Houston is a question only time can answer.
