Introduction
Every football team needs a strong defense to counter the opponent's offense. The defense is made up of two main parts:
- The Defensive Line
- The Secondary
Linebackers (LB)
Linebackers line up just behind the defensive line and provide extra protection on running plays or passing plays depending on the coverage. As a result, the linebacker's job description will vary based on the play call. That's why defensive linebackers are such an important and versatile position in football.
- to prevent the forward-progress of the ball-carrier
- to prevent the completion of passes
- to prevent scores
- to sack the quarterback
