Bodybuilding is basically exactly what it sounds like. Athletes build their body by gaining more weight and muscle for sport. This is mainly done through lifting weights and exercising while targeting specific regions of the body. It is also very important to have the correct diet in order to bodybuild, this includes eating in mass amounts and including adequate amounts of carbs, protein, and fat into one’s diet.

Equipment

In terms of equipment in bodybuilding, you would use what you would commonly find at a local gym. Weights, including dumbbells, barbells, and kettlebells are the most important thing to have in order to build muscle and weight. Other pieces of equipment such as gloves to keep from getting blisters and platforms for barbells can also be used in bodybuilding. Protein shakes and other weight gain supplements can also be important to one’s ability to bodybuild.

Basic Rules

Other than keeping your target weight in your specific weight class and the use of performance-enhancing drugs there are not too many rules/regulations regarding bodybuilding. Those who participate in illegal activities such as performance-enhancing drugs or do not meet their weight in their particular weight class can be subject to suspension or disqualification from competitions.

Basic Positions

Positioning in bodybuilding is mainly used in order to keep athletes safe and to be more successful. For example, when lifting weights athletes must take a proper position or else they can injure themselves or it will be ineffective in helping them gain weight and muscle. A great example of this is benching, athletes must place their hands parallel to their shoulders on the bar and push up with their knuckles facing the sky in order to be safe and effective in doing so.
