Career

Wembanyama began his professional basketball career in the Eurocup, which is a seven-day tournament. He was playing for Nanterre at this time, and being new to the team during the tournament, he didn’t see much playing time. However, once the tournament ended, his minutes per game shot up from 8.3 to nearly 17. He then switched teams and entered the Euroleague. The Euroleague is one of the most coveted basketball leagues in the world outside of the NBA. Wembanyama, just loving the game of basketball, didn’t want to leave the French league. He played the next two seasons of his career in the French league and is now one of the best, if not the best players in that league. He won the Best Young Player Award in two straight years. Soon after he won his second award in May of 2022, he opted out of his contract with the Euroleague. He was also the second-youngest player to play in the Eurocup, at 15 years and nine months old. Due to his young age, however, Wembanyama has yet to fill up his award shelf, but seeing what he can become, that will happen very soon.
