Hops is a slang term in basketball used for someone who can jump extremely high with ease. The term “hops” describes the player’s vertical jumping ability and athleticism. Having hops is very beneficial in the sport of basketball because it brings players closer to the basket and allows them to rebound, dunk, and finish shots at the rim much easier. Players with hops are even able to dunk the ball seemingly without effort.
While some players are gifted with a natural jumping ability, others need to work on their hops. Players can work on their vertical jumping skills by working out to specifically strengthen their leg muscles, core, and overall fitness. Hops are not only beneficial for playing basketball but also add excitement to a player’s game. Teammates will often exclaim, “Wow, you have insane hops!” when noticing a player on their team’s vertical leaping abilities.
