Basketball Away Team
Basketball Away Team
The away team in basketball is the team that is visiting and playing at their opponent's home court. The away team must travel to the court of the home team, which can often be a long distance. In the NBA, away teams have to fly all over the country throughout the season. NCAA teams have to travel too, although their schedule is constructed to be a bit more convenient for the teams.
Home Court Advantage
Home court advantage is a phenomenon which says that home teams have an advantage over away teams.
Out of the four major American sports (football, basketball, baseball, hockey), it is believed that home court advantage is the most important in basketball. Teams win approximately 60% of games at home in the regular season. Additionally, in the playoffs home teams win 60.6% of games.
Uniforms
Up until 2017-18, the home team wore white or another light colored jersey. Away teams wore a dark colored jersey. A change was made at the start of the 2017-18 which stated the home team could choose what color jersey to wear. The away team now must wear the jersey color which appropriately contrasts the home team’s jersey.
