Basketball Career

Carmelo Anthony started his basketball career once he committed to Syracuse University to play basketball for the Orangemen. In his freshman year, Anthony was integral to the team's success, and Syracuse won their first-ever national championship in 2003 with an 81-78 score against University of Kansas. This proved to Anthony that he was ready for the big leagues, so he left Syracuse and was declared eligible for the 2003 NBA draft.

In the draft, Anthony was selected by the Denver Nuggets on the third overall pick. In his first professional season, Anthony averaged 21 points and six rebounds in a single game. Anthony's statistics kept increasing but despite his scoring successes, the team could not move upward in the playoffs for years.

In early 2011, Anthony was traded to the New York Knicks. The Knicks also had difficulty competing in the playoffs, and it started to affect their future seasons, not even making it into the playoffs. In 2017, Anthony was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He lasted one season with the Thunder before being traded again to the Atlanta Hawks for a short time, and then released and signed with the Houston Rockets. He played in only ten games as a Rockets player, and was traded once again to the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls released Anthony in early 2019 and in November 2019, Anthony signed with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he currently still plays today.

Carmelo Anthony's legendary skills have allowed him to receive many awards. Before his professional career, Anthony was named the NCAA's Most Outstanding Player and the Freshman of the Year in 2003, after his historic win for 'Cuse. He was awarded all six Rookie of the Month awards in his first season, joining only three other extraordinary NBA players to do this. He had a meteoric scoring spree in the professional league and within three years, Anthony scored 5,000 points, the second youngest basketball player to achieve such a feat.

In the 2004 Olympics, he was a member of the U.S. Olympic basketball team and won the bronze medal. Anthony improved his performance and in 2008, the U.S. Olympic Basketball Team won the gold medal; he achieved another gold medal in 2012 and 2016. Beginning in 2007, Anthony was a ten-time NBA Conference All-Star Team Member and a starter for eight of the ten years. Anthony helped the New York Knicks win their second best record in the Eastern Conference in the 2012-2013 season.

Personal Life

Carmelo Anthony was born in Brooklyn to parents Carmelo Iriarte and Mary Anthony. They moved to Baltimore, Maryland at an early age and Anthony's father passed at age two, leaving his mother to support Anthony and his three older siblings. As a teen, Anthony transferred to Oak Hill Academy, a private boarding school in Virginia to increase his academics in order to be recruited for a top-tier college.

After being chosen in the NBA draft and playing professionally, Anthony was introduced to MTV Star La La Vasquez and they hit it off immediately. In 2004, Anthony proposed to La La and three years later, they announced the birth of their child Kiyan Carmelo Anthony. The two finally wed in July of 2010, but in 2017, La La left Anthony due to a rumored cheating scandal. They are still co-parenting their son together.
