Anthony Davis is a professional basketball player that plays for the Los Angeles Lakers as of 2020. Anthony Davis was born in 1993 in Chicago and went to the University of Kentucky. He was drafted first overall in 2012 to the New Orleans Hornets (now known as the New Orleans Pelicans). Davis is an amazing all star player in the NBA, who is known for his skill on defense and scoring near the rim. Anthony Davis is also famously known for his unibrow which has led to nicknames like The Brow.
After 7 years with little success with the Pelicans Anthony Davis requested a trade. He then was traded to the Lakers to team up with Lebron James, with the hope of bringing another NBA title to the Purple and Gold. Davis has been a part of the NBA since 2012, and is in the prime of his career with much more basketball ahead of him.
Anthony Davis was born in Chicago, Illinois. He played high school basketball for the Perspectives Charter School, which competed in the Chicago Public High School League. Davis also joined the Tai Streets' Meanstreets (AAU team), where he began receiving more national attention and got scholarship offers from Syracuse and Kentucky.
Davis signed with Kentucky in August 2010. Coming into the season at Kentucky, high expectations were placed on Davis, with him being on many preseason awards lists. Davis fully lived up to expectations leading Kentucky to the number 1 seed in the NCAA March Madness Tournament. He then led Kentucky to its 8th national championship as a Freshman.
After this, Davis declared for the draft and was selected first overall by the New Orleans Hornets (now the New Orleans Pelicans). Davis was great with the Pelicans, making the All-Star game in only his second season and continuing to improve making All Star NBA teams. Even though Davis was great, the team around him was never good, and he never made it far in the playoffs. This resulted in Davis requesting a trade from the Pelicans, and eventually being traded in the 2019 offseason to the Lakers to join Lebron James.
Anthony Davis has racked up awards and titles at every level of basketball. In high school, Davis was ranked number 1 in the 2011 class by ESPNU and Scout.com, and number 2 by Rivals.com. Anthony Davis was also named a McDonald's All-American in 2011, and first team All American by SLAM magazine.
Then, at the college level, Davis continued collecting awards. At the end of the year Davis won USBWA National Freshman of the Year, The NABC Defensive Player of the Year, U.S Basketball Writers Associations (USBWA) Robertson trophy, the Associated Press College Basketball Player of the Year, and the Naismith College Player of the Year. He then also won the 2012 national championship with Kentucky and was named the NCAA Basketball Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
After college, Davis was then drafted first overall by the New Orleans Hornets (now the New Orleans Pelicans). Since he has gotten to the NBA Davis has been a 7 time All Star, 4 time first team All-NBA selection, 4 time all defensive team, and won the All Star MVP in 2017.
Anthony Marshon Davis Jr. was born March 11th, 1993 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents were Anthony Davis Sr. and Erainer Davis, and he has a twin sister and older sister who also plays basketball. Davis's high school Perspectives Charter School was academically focused on math and science. This meant little attention was placed on athletics and so Davis actually practiced basketball at a nearby church since his school didn't have a gym. Davis never transferred to any of the basketball powerhouses and continued playing for his charter school. Davis then decided to go to the University of Kentucky where he only spent one year before declaring for the draft.
Davis is a private person so not much else about his personal life is well known especially since he has gotten to the NBA. It is known that he has a girlfriend Marlen who he has a child with. However, Davis has not ever posted a picture of his girlfriend or child on any of his social media accounts, and tries to keep his personal life private.
Anthony Davis not only makes money from his contract playing basketball, but has many other large sponsorship deals too. Anthony Davis is signed as a Nike athlete along with his sponsorships with Foot Locker, Exxon Mobil, Saks Inc, and Redbull. These sponsorships earn him a reported 9 million dollars per year. All of this contributes to him being ranked the 39th highest earning athlete by Forbes in 2019.
Along with being a great athlete, Anthony Davis also has done lots of charity work and giving back to the community. In 2016, Anthony Davis won the Community Assist Award for his work in the New Orleans Community encouraging health and fitness. More recently the Anthony Davis Family Foundation announced a 250,000 dollar donation to the "Help Feed the Frontline Fighting COVID-19 In LA" campaign.
Anthony Davis, while an amazing player who has many awards and accolades, has had little success on the game's biggest stage. Davis's Pelicans were never a top team in the league, and only made the playoffs twice in his tenure with the team. While he did his best in each playoff series, he simply didn't have the team around him to succeed. This is what caused Davis to request a trade to the Lakers with the hopes of a championship in 2020.
Anthony Davis is viewed as a top basketball player in the world winning awards and accolades throughout his career so far. However, during his tenure in high school he got little to no national recognition up until his junior year. This was a combination of the fact that he played at a school not known for basketball, and had gone from 6ft to 6ft 8 inches by the end of his junior year.
