Career

After playing three years for North Carolina State University, Trea Turner was drafted by the San Diego Padres with the thirteenth pick in the 2014 MLB draft. After playing in the Padres minor league system for the first few months of his career, Turner was involved in a three-team trade in December of 2014. In a trade involving the Padres, the Tampa Bay Rays, and Washington Nationals that saw seven major league players swap teams, Turner thought he was on the way to the Nationals. He ultimately had to wait until the following June, however, as a player cannot be traded until one year after he is drafted. 

After a couple of months in the Nationals minor league system, Turner made his MLB debut with Washington on August 21, 2015. After an outstanding career with Washington that included a 2019 World Series title, Turner was involved in a blockbuster trade in July of 2021 that sent him and Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He finished out the 2021 season with the Dodgers and spent 2022 with them before signing an eleven-year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies worth $300 million during the 2022-2023 offseason.

Titles And Awards

The pinnacle of Turner’s career thus far was when he helped lead the Washington Nationals to the World Series title in 2019. Throughout the postseason that year, Turner collected 17 hits, scored 10 runs, and drove in three runs. As for his individual awards, Turner has been selected to the All-Star team on two occasions in 2021 and 2022. He also won the Silver Slugger Award for shortstops this past season and won the National league Batting title in 2021 with a .328 average. 

Additionally, Turner was selected to play for the United States team in the World Baseball Classic this spring. While the USA came up short, losing to Japan in the championship game, Turner had an outstanding tournament. In six games, Turner hit .391 with five home runs and 11 RBIs while scoring six runs. After the tournament, Turner was selected to the All-Tournament team.

Personal Life

On June 30, 1993, Trea Turner was born to his parents, Mark and Donna Turner, in Boynton Beach, Florida. He attended Park Vista Community High School in Lake Worth, Florida, where he played baseball. After high school, he attended North Carolina State University for three years before being drafted in the MLB. While at NC State, he met his future wife in Kristen Harabedian, who was a gymnast at the school. 

A relatively famous gymnast, Kirsten had been featured by Faces in the Crowd in Sports Illustrated in January of 2010. The two eventually married in November of 2018 in Washington D.C. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church while Turner was still playing for the Nationals. They announced the birth of their first child, a son named Beckham, in February of 2021. In the offseason, Turner lives with his family in his home state of Florida in Palm Beach Gardens.
