1. University of Florida

The University of Florida is the top NCAA Division I college baseball program in the country from 2009 to 2018. During this time, they won four SEC regular season conference titles, made an appearance in 10 regionals, moved on to eight Super Regionals, and played in seven College World Series. In 2011, they were the national runner-up and in 2017 they won a national championship. They have been a consistent and forceful team since the arrival of head coach Kevin O’Sullivan in 2008. Before his arrival, the Florida Gators had only appeared in five College World Series in program history.

2. Vanderbilt University

Vanderbilt University is a stellar college baseball program that has been achieving great success under head coach Tim Corbin, especially in the last five years. After no success making it to the College World Series for his first eight seasons, Corbin led his team to four College World Series appearances in the last decade with championship titles coming in 2014 and 2019, as runner-up in 2015. They have appeared in the regionals for the last 11 seasons and have advanced to Super Regionals eight times. They won the Southeastern Conference championship three times between 2011 and 2020.

3. Louisiana State University

Louisiana State University is another powerhouse college baseball program. They have won the SEC conference championship three times in the last 11 seasons. They have also played in 10 regional championships, winning seven of them. They have advanced to the College World Series five times and won one national championship back in 2009. They did appear in the championship series 2017, even though they have not won the series for several years. For several decades, the LSU Tigers have been one of the most skilled and successful programs in the league, and they constantly make it to the postseason play.

4. Texas Christian University

Texas Christian University has won six conference championships since 2008. They have appeared in nine regionals, winning eight of those games to move on to the Super Regionals. Of those Super Regionals, they won five games in order to advance to the College World Series. They have won a total of 11 games in the College World Series in their 10-year span, however they have not won a championship or finished as the runner-up in those competitions. They are usually a reliable team during the regular and postseason. The team has been coached by Jim Schlossnagle since 2004 and they have done pretty well since his arrival.

5. Oregon State University

Oregon State University is a fantastic college baseball program that has been consistent for many years. They won the 2018 College World Series and have been extremely successful otherwise for the past decade. Over the last 11 seasons, the Oregon Beavers have won three conference championships and appeared in 10 regionals, winning four of them. They have won three out of four of the Super regionals that they have played in. Until 2018, they had not had ultimate success in the College World Series, but had won a few games here and there. This most recent national championship had come under the leadership of Pat Casey.

6. University of Arkansas

The University of Arkansas has made several appearances in the postseason for the past few years. A top baseball school, Arkansas has appeared in 10 regionals in the past 11 years and has won six of them. They won six Super Regionals and have made several appearances in the College World Series. They were the runner-up in 2018 to Oregon State but have continued to be a strong force in college baseball even with no victories in the College World Series. For the past decade or so, they have had one stellar head coach, Dave Van Horn. He has had great success with this team and is expected to secure them a championship victory in coming years.

7. Florida State University

Florida State University has been ranked as a top baseball school for several decades. Their elite head coach, Mike Martin, has been with the team for the past 40 years and counting. This team has made regional appearances for the last 11 years and have won two conference championships. They have more often than not won the regionals that they participate in and have appeared in nine Super Regionals and four College World Series. Although they are fairly consistent when entering the postseason, the team tends to be inconsistent with their play after regionals. They have not reached ultimate success in the College World Series, but they are likely to continue being a major threat in college baseball.

8. Texas Tech University

Texas Tech University has been an admirable threat over the past decade or so, and their talent and success have been on the rise. They have only won a few conference titles, but they have appeared in five regionals. They have moved on to the Super Regionals four times and won to move on to the College World Series each time. They even made it to the semifinals series last season. All of this success has been granted to head coach Tim Tadlock, who had been with the team for seven seasons now. He has been turning this baseball program into a winning entity.

9. University of Louisville

The University of Louisville has had a solid baseball team in recent years. Coach Dan McDonnell has been around for about 12 years, and has brought the program to a higher level since his instatement. They have won more conference titles than anyone on the list in recent years and have appeared in 10 regionals, winning seven of them. They also won four of the seven Super Regionals they have been in, and appeared in the College World Series four times in the last decade or so. Once making it to the biggest stage in college baseball, they have not found ultimate success. Their consistency in regular and postseason games is likely to win them a title in coming years.

10. Mississippi State University

Mississippi State University is one of the truly elite programs in college baseball. In recent years, they have won an SEC title and made appearances in eight regionals during the last 11 seasons. They have won six of their regionals and three of the Super Regional titles. They have been fairly successful in the College World Series, making it to the championship series in 2013 and the semifinal series in 2018. In the last 11 seasons, they have had four different head coaches, which may be contributing to their inability to come out as ultimate victors thus far.

Honorable Mentions

Oregon State

Oregon State has appeared in seven College World Series, winning three titles across those appearances, in 2006, 2007, and 2018. While they have not returned to the CWS since their last win, they have appeared in every NCAA College Basketball Tournament since. Their last conference championship occurred in 2017, being the 26th conference title they have won. Oregon State continues to be a highly-competitive and successful baseball school, with their team headed up by Coach Mitvh Canham, who is currently in his fourth season.

University of California Los Angeles

The UCLA Bruins have appeared in five College World Series, winning the championship in 2013. Although the school is more known for its football and basketball teams, UCLA baseball is a strong contender. As a state school, it is also an excellent choice for California residents. The Bruins were conference champions in 2019 and have made the playoffs in the past five seasons. If you’re looking for a competitive baseball school with proven academics in Southern California, UCLA is hard to beat.

Stanford University

Stanford has a strong baseball tradition and they recently saw great success in the playoffs. The Cardinal appeared in two consecutive College World Series, in 2021 and 2022, but failed to add to their collection of championship wins. (They won the tournament in 1987 and 1988.) Stanford has fielded a baseball team since 1892 and the Cardinal has been a steady contender in the NCAA tournament since its first years. Aside from their two championships in the 80s, Stanford baseball is currently as hot as it has ever been. If you are looking for an opportunity at an underrated but excellent baseball program, Stanford could be the college for you.
