No, MLB players who are currently on the 40-man MLB team roster, and some minor-league prospects, are currently not allowed to compete in the qualifiers for the 2020 Summer Olympics .

The MLB has not announced if major league players will be allowed to compete in the Olympic Games this summer in Tokyo, but Major League Softball players will be allowed to play in the games. The MLB will back the United States Softball team through the "Stand Beside Her" tour, a series of exhibition games that will lead up to the 2020 Olympics.

The United States baseball team failed to qualify for the 2020 Olympics after blowing a ninth-inning league to Mexico in the Premier12 tournament. The team will have two more chances to qualify for the games at tournaments in Arizona and Taiwan.

Baseball has not been in the Olympic Games since 2008, and it's likely the game could be absent again in 2024 when the Olympics are held in Paris, France. In 2008, South Korea defeated Cuba for the gold medal 3-2. The United States defeated Japan 8-4 to claim the bronze medal that year.
