Baseball Fielding

In this chapter, we will learn about fielding and when a team is on defense. By the end of this chapter you will understand what fielding is and the tasks and challenges to go with playing defense in baseball.

We've already learned about the player positions in baseball, but we've yet to see how they all work together in something called fielding.

Fielding is an important part of baseball and playing defense. A fielder needs to be aware at all times and ready to make any type of play. It all depends on the number of outs, number of baserunners, and the batter.

What We'll Be Learning

In this chapter, we will learn what fielding is, how it works, and some strategies fielders use to make outs and prevent runs. We will first review the infielders and outfielders of a baseball team based on their player positions. Next, we will learn about ground balls and fly balls. We will then talk about force outs and tag outs. We will end with a discussion of pickoffs and overthrows.
